Not Sure If It’s Time to Refer?
Here’s What to Look For

Recognizing when a teen might need a higher level of mental health care isn’t always easy. Whether you’re a parent, school counselor, or provider, certain signs may suggest that traditional therapy alone may not be enough. That’s when structured, team-based programs like PHP & IOP for teens can provide the support, stability, and therapeutic care needed to help them heal, grow, and thrive.

Clarity Clinic’s Summer Adolescent PHP & IOP programs are designed for teens (ages 13–17) who may benefit from immediate, short-term, intensive support. You might consider referring a teen if they’re experiencing:

default

Ongoing school avoidance, frequent absences, or repeated visits to the school social worker, counselor, or nurse

default

Thoughts or behaviors related to self-harm or safety concerns, including suicidal ideation

default

Recent discharge from a psychiatric hospitalization and in need of a step-down level of care

default

Difficulty coping at home, school, or in daily routines - struggling to function in a meaningful way

default

Co-occurring mental health symptoms that would benefit from a multidisciplinary team approach

default

A need for comprehensive care that includes psychiatry, individual therapy, group therapy, and family support in one coordinated program

default

Situations where medication adjustments are needed within a closely monitored treatment setting

If you’re unsure whether a PHP/IOP referral is appropriate, our team is happy to help walk through the options and determine the best fit for each teen and family.

In Network & Out of Network Benefits

In-Network
Our adolescent PHP and IOP programs are in-network with the following PPO plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC). We also accept select HMO plans from BCBS and Cigna, but a referral and prior authorization are needed before starting care. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry—our team is here to help make the process as smooth as possible! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Out of Network
Navigating the insurance system can be overwhelming, and we are here to help you understand the financial side of treatment as best as possible. Once we have your insurance information, we can verify the “out of network” benefits that are available to you through your insurance plan. If you do not have out of network benefits, Clarity can advocate for what is called a Single Case Agreement (SCA) with your insurance provider. If the single case agreement is not an option, we can provide additional resources to you or discuss private pay options.
