Adolescence is a critical and transformative period, marked by rapid physical changes and emotional development. During this time, teens are not only navigating their own identity but also managing increasing social and academic pressures. These challenges can lead to elevated stress, anxiety, and mood swings, making teens more susceptible to mental health struggles.
External factors such as school demands, peer relationships, family dynamics, and the influence of social media can further impact their mental well-being. Many teens also find it difficult to express their emotions or seek support, which can complicate efforts to address their mental health effectively.
Providing personalized care tailored to a teen’s specific needs is crucial for fostering emotional resilience and well-being during this pivotal stage.
At Clarity Clinic, we focus on offering individualized depression and anxiety treatment that helps teens build the skills they need to navigate life’s challenges.
Our teen PHP & IOP program may be a good fit for adolescents who:
For families new to the world of mental health for teens, terms like Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP Program) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP Program) can feel overwhelming. However, our leading teen mental health programs, also known as PHP & IOP programs, located near Chicago, provide essential support without the need for overnight care, allowing your teen to return home each day. Learn more about our specialized depression and anxiety treatment programs for teens below.
Our PHP for teens includes 20 hours per week of group therapy and is offered Monday through Friday, from 4-8pm. Our teen IOP includes 9-15 hours per week of group therapy and is offered Monday through Friday, from 4:30-7:30pm. Both our PHP and IOP programs have additional time set aside for individual and family support.
Our programs provide a caring, supportive space where your teen’s well-being comes first. After a comprehensive evaluation to understand their unique needs and strengths, we create a personalized treatment plan tailored to their specific symptoms and goals. Guided by clinicians specializing in adolescent mental health, your teen will work toward these goals using a range of evidence-based therapies.
Both our teen mental health programs offer a holistic approach to teen mental health care, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Core elements of these programs include individual therapy, daily group sessions, family involvement, and psychiatric support/medication management when needed (for PHP program participants only). Experiential therapies such as art therapy, movement, yoga, and mindfulness therapy are also incorporated. Understanding that every teen is different, we personalize treatment to align with their unique challenges and goals.
Family involvement is a vital part of our teen mental health programs (PHP & IOP). We believe that a supportive home environment is key to lasting progress, which is why we incorporate regular family therapy sessions. These sessions help improve communication, strengthen relationships, and equip families with the tools to better understand and support their teen’s mental health journey. In addition to family therapy, we provide education on mental health and strategies for managing stress, setting boundaries, and fostering emotional well-being. By working together, we create a foundation for long-term growth, ensuring progress continues beyond the program.
"I came to IOP because I was having thoughts of hurting myself and unmanageable anxiety, with panic attacks almost daily and self-harm several days a week. The distress tolerance skills have been really helpful in settling my nervous system and bringing my emotional intensity down. I’ve been able to make active choices toward creating a life I want to be living. Taking this time to focus on myself, reflect on my values, and learn skills to handle intense emotions has been immensely helpful for me."

"I came to IOP at Clarity Clinic through a physician referral after struggling with passive suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and depression. I lacked structure and needed support. Learning DBT skills like FAST, GIVE, STOP, and PLEASE helped me radically accept myself and push for change. Building a routine around these tools gave me a sense of identity again - my spark is coming back. This program is well-structured, inclusive, and truly builds a sense of community. It’s been a worthwhile experience."

At Clarity Clinic, we believe that family involvement is a crucial part of a teen’s journey toward emotional well-being. Adolescents thrive when they have a supportive, understanding family environment, which is why we incorporate family participation into our PHP & IOP program. Our goal is to strengthen family connections, improve communication, and provide tools for healthier interactions at home.
Families are invited to participate in Family Connections Sessions, where they join their teen for a portion of the PHP or IOP session. These collaborative meetings help strengthen family bonds, provide a shared understanding of treatment goals, and offer practical tools for continued progress at home.
By integrating family involvement into our teen mental health programs, we aim to foster a supportive network that empowers both teens and their families to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.

Peer Connection and Support
An adolescent PHP/IOP program is an excellent fit for teens who struggle to open up to parents or authority figures about their mental health. Through our group therapy model, teens are provided a safe, supportive environment to connect with peers facing similar challenges.
This not only makes it easier for them to express themselves openly and feel understood, but also helps normalize their experiences, foster accountability, and build a strong sense of belonging - all while free from the pressure of a parental or authoritative presence.
If your teen is showing signs of low mood, withdrawal, irritability, or changes in sleep or concentration, it may be more than just a phase. Our depression screening (PHQ-9) is a brief, clinically validated tool designed to help identify early signs of depression.
If the results suggest moderate to severe symptoms, our teen depression treatment programs (PHP & IOP) can provide the expert, compassionate care your child needs.
Take the PHQ-9 Depression TestIs your teen overwhelmed by worry, avoiding school or social situations, or experiencing physical symptoms of anxiety? The GAD-7 anxiety test is a clinically validated screening tool that helps identify common signs of generalized anxiety disorder in adolescents.

Curious about PHP insurance coverage and IOP insurance coverage? Rest assured, our team is here to help you understand your coverage options. Our goal is to help make mental health care as accessible as possible for our patients. Contact us if you have questions regarding your insurance coverage for our adolescent PHP & IOP programs.
At Clarity Clinic we are committed to making high quality behavioral health services accessible to our patients. We are dedicated to working with you to decrease as many barriers to treatment as possible.
When you are ready to explore if our program may be a good fit for you, a member of the Clarity Clinic team will reach out to your insurance company to obtain your insurance eligibility information and review this information with you directly.
In-Network
Our adolescent PHP and IOP programs are in-network with the following PPO plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC). We also accept select HMO plans from BCBS and Cigna, but a referral and prior authorization are needed before starting care. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry—our team is here to help make the process as smooth as possible! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Out of Network
Navigating the insurance system can be overwhelming, and we are here to help you understand the financial side of treatment as best as possible. Once we have your insurance information, we can verify the “out of network” benefits that are available to you through your insurance plan. If you do not have out of network benefits, Clarity can advocate for what is called a Single Case Agreement (SCA) with your insurance provider. If the single case agreement is not an option, we can provide additional resources to you or discuss private pay options.
You are your best advocate with your insurance provider, and we encourage you to reach out to your insurance company directly to understand your plan.
To verify your benefits, you can contact your insurance card via the number on the back of your card and advise “I’m calling to verify my (in-network or out of network) benefits for PHP and IOP general mental health services.”
If you are having difficulty getting the information you need, another option is to call your insurance company’s ‘Health Advocate’ or ‘Case Manager’ department. These insurance representatives are available to help you understand your benefits. There should be a number on the back of your insurance card to contact.
