Professional statement

Caitlin Garstkiewicz, LCSW, has her undergraduate degree in psychology from Eastern Illinois University and her Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California. She has worked in mental health since 2014, and has experience working in community mental health, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, residential mental health programs, and psychosocial rehabilitation centers. She has vast experience working with individuals living with a plethora of disorders, including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and substance use. In addition, she is passionate about supporting individuals with self-esteem challenges, emotion regulation issues, stress management, and suicidality/self-harm. Caitlin has a special interest in working with individuals that are HIV positive, identify as LGBTQ+, and individuals that are currently or previously engaged in the criminal justice system. Caitlin uses an evidence-based and holistic framework, especially utilizing psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT/DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness to support therapeutic growth.

Caitlin finds it a true honor to support, guide, and counsel individuals who are facing challenges with managing their mental health, life transitions, and difficult times. She finds the reparative effort of the healing relationship very special. She believes in the human ability to explore, develop insight, and change in order to live a value-driven life, with richer meaning, as an authentic individual. Caitlin brings empathy, warmth, and compassion to each session, and focuses on each client’s needs and growth. She utilizes a collaborative and inclusive approach to therapy, to ensure each client feels heard, accepted, and supported in their current challenges and goals.
